The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued an amber alert warning naval and fishing communities not to venture into deep-sea areas bounded by 10N-15N and 80E-90E in the Bay of Bengal due to expected strong winds and rough seas.
According to the advisory issued at 4:30 p.m. on October 30 a low-pressure area located over the south Andaman Sea is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea by tomorrow (October 31). The system is forecasted to intensify further while moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, India, over the subsequent two days.
Wind speeds in the designated advisory sea areas are expected to reach up to 60 kmph at times, leading to rough sea conditions. Naval and fishing communities currently operating in these designated deep-sea areas are strongly advised to move to safe areas and stay updated on further forecasts and weather bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology.
