A 21-year-old man has been taken into police custody over the alleged sexual assault of a 20-year-old French woman who was visiting the Jungle Beach area in Rumassala.
The suspect, a resident of Ragama, had travelled to the area when the alleged incident took place, police said.
Following information received regarding the incident, officers of the Unawatuna Tourist Police Division arrested the suspect.
After ensuring the safety of the French tourist, police handed over the suspect to the Habaraduwa Police for further legal action.
The suspect is due to be produced before court today (November 1), police said. (Newswire)
