Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called for urgent action against those responsible for the reported killing of another wild tusker in Sri Lanka.
In a social media post accompanied by disturbing images of a dead elephant, Premadasa described the incident as horrific, referring to information reportedly provided by the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
“One more tusker killed. A horrific sight, as reported by the Wildlife Department,” he said.
Premadasa urged authorities to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further killings of wild elephants.
He called for those responsible, whom he described as “environmental terrorists,” to be brought before the law and subjected to the toughest possible punishment.
“Let us unite to prevent this devastation and destruction,” he said.
The latest statement follows growing concern over the deaths of wild tuskers in Sri Lanka, particularly the recent death of the iconic tusker Kawanthissa.
Premadasa has previously called for stronger wildlife protection measures, including a dedicated conservation programme and a special investigation into Kawanthissa’s death.
The location and circumstances of the latest reported tusker death have not yet been independently confirmed. (Newswire)
