The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has announced that the liquidation process for 33 selected State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) is currently underway, overseen by a specialized State-Owned Enterprise Reform unit established under Cabinet approval in March.

Meanwhile, in line with 2026 Budget proposals, the Treasury is actively settling long-standing liabilities regarding Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF), and gratuity payments for selected state-owned enterprises. Out of a total Rs. 5 billion allocated for this purpose, Rs. 2.8 billion has been fully disbursed by the end of August 2026.

Despite facing severe second-quarter challenges due to Middle Eastern conflicts such as rising raw material costs, supply chain disruptions, and order cancellations 51 major state-owned enterprises posted a combined profit of Rs. 259.3 billion during the first six months of 2026. This reflects a significant increase of Rs. 31.5 billion compared to the Rs. 227.8 billion combined profit recorded during the same period in 2025. (Newswire)
