Train services on Sri Lanka’s Northern Railway Line have been disrupted due to the overflowing of the Deduru Oya following heavy rainfall.
According to the Railway Department, train operations between Kurunegala and Maho have been temporarily suspended after the railway tracks were submerged in floodwaters.
The Railway Control Room stated that the disruption was caused by the overflowing of the Deduru Oya in the area between Wellawa and Ganewatta.
As a result, trains departing from Colombo will operate only up to Kurunegala, while trains arriving from Jaffna will operate only up to Maho until services are restored.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department stated that four spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each following heavy rainfall yesterday (02).
Director of Water Management at the Irrigation Department, L.S. Sooriyabandara, said water levels in several other reservoirs have also increased. (Newswire)
