Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa says Sri Lanka is expected to receive 47 new ambulances through loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as part of efforts to address the shortage of ambulances in the country.
Addressing Parliament today (03), the Minister said the government expects to address the ambulance shortage within the next two to three years, with additional ambulances to be obtained through ADB assistance next year.
He further revealed plans to introduce an independent ambulance service system across the country, similar to the model currently operating in the Nuwara Eliya District.
According to the Minister, the ambulance service in Nuwara Eliya operates independently of the health sector, and the government intends to expand this system islandwide in the near future.
Minister Jayatissa also stated that work is progressing simultaneously on the information technology aspects of the proposed system, with the aim of addressing existing issues and improving ambulance services across the country. (Newswire)
