A protest organised by the People’s Struggle Movement against the government’s proposed Protection of the State from Terrorism Bill (PSTA) and Prevention of Organised Crimes Bill has commenced at Polduwa Junction today (04).

The protesters are calling on the government to withdraw the proposed legislation, raising concerns over its potential impact on democratic freedoms and public rights.

Protesters were seen carrying placards and banners opposing the proposed laws, with slogans calling for the withdrawal of the PSTA and organised crime legislation.

Some demonstrators also displayed banners demanding the repeal of the existing Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), warning against the introduction of new legislation that they believe could further restrict civil liberties.

Meanwhile, Police security has been strengthened in the Polduwa Junction area in view of the ongoing protest. (Newswire)
