Plans are underway to introduce 50 additional buses to the Metro Bus service in 2027, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena has announced.
According to the Deputy Minister, plans are also underway to expand the Metro Bus service beyond the Western Province to Kandy, Jaffna and Galle in the future.
He said the Metro Bus service, which initially commenced as a pilot project with 10 buses operating on two routes, has now expanded significantly.
The service currently operates 122 buses across seven routes, covering all three districts of the Western Province.
The expansion plans were highlighted in a statement following a discussion chaired by the Deputy Minister on November 4, focusing on improving the LMT Go mobile application and the overall passenger experience. (Newswire)
