The first Mini Incubation Centre established under a new programme by the Ministry of Science and Technology was opened in Mirigama on Wednesday (04), aimed at providing technological support to micro and small-scale entrepreneurs.

The centre was inaugurated by Minister of Science and Technology Chrishantha Abeysena at the Vidatha Resource Centre located within the Mirigama Divisional Secretariat premises.

According to the Ministry, the initiative aims to provide modern technological facilities to micro and small-scale entrepreneurs who currently operate their businesses with limited resources.

Under the first phase of the programme, 25 Mini Incubation Centres are expected to be established at selected Vidatha Resource Centres, covering all districts across Sri Lanka.

The programme is expected to benefit approximately 2,500 entrepreneurs, with Rs. 100.9 million allocated for its implementation in 2026.

The newly opened centre in Mirigama will provide entrepreneurs involved in food production with access to modern equipment and facilities for hygienic food processing, packaging and labelling.

The initiative is expected to improve the quality and standards of locally manufactured products while expanding market opportunities for small businesses. (Newswire)
