The National System Operator (NSO) has stated that an increase in electricity tariffs is not required for the October to December period of 2026.

The NSO made the announcement during a stakeholder consultation held today (05) regarding the proposed electricity tariff revision for the fourth quarter of 2026.

According to the NSO, the decision was based on existing water storage levels in reservoirs and forecasts of above-average rainfall under El Niño weather conditions.

The announcement comes after the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) revealed yesterday (04) that the NSO had initially requested a 2.88% electricity tariff revision for the fourth quarter.

However, the PUCSL stated that, considering the prevailing conditions, only a 1.46% tariff revision could be granted.

The PUCSL is conducting public consultations today to gather views on the proposed electricity tariff revision.

A final decision on electricity tariffs for the October to December period is expected to be announced following the consultation process.

The NSO had previously submitted its electricity tariff review proposal for the fourth quarter of 2026 to the PUCSL for consideration. (Newswire)
