Sri Lanka’s first Tinkering Lab has been inaugurated at Nalanda College in Colombo, aimed at encouraging innovation, creativity and technological development among students.
In a post on ‘X’, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha announced the initiative, which was launched in collaboration with Hemas Holdings, Nalanda College and India’s Atal Innovation Mission.
The inauguration was attended by Nalanda College Principal U.D. Iran Champika, Hemas Holdings Group CEO Ashish Chandra and distinguished Nalanda College alumnus and former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene.
In a statement, High Commissioner Jha highlighted India’s experience in promoting innovation among schoolchildren through more than 10,000 Tinkering Labs established across major cities and smaller towns.
He said Indian students have developed innovative solutions, including automated irrigation systems and smart canes for visually impaired individuals, through these facilities.
Jha expressed confidence that Sri Lankan students would now have similar opportunities to experiment, test ideas, develop inventions and create products for the global market.
The Indian High Commissioner also congratulated Hemas Holdings and Nalanda College on their partnership and thanked the Atal Innovation Mission for facilitating the initiative. (Newswire)
