A 50-year-old specialist surgeon attached to the Polonnaruwa Hospital was killed in a road accident involving a car and a tipper truck in Minneriya on Friday (06).
According to Police, the accident occurred in the evening near the 39th kilometre post on the Polonnaruwa-Habarana Road.
The car, travelling from Minneriya towards Habarana, collided with a tipper truck approaching from the opposite direction.
Both drivers sustained injuries and were taken to the Habarana Hospital, where the car driver was pronounced dead on admission.
The deceased was identified as a specialist surgeon residing in New Town, Polonnaruwa.
The tipper truck driver was transferred to the Polonnaruwa Hospital for further treatment.
Minneriya Police are conducting further investigations into the accident. (Newswire)
