Sri Lanka has recorded 94,037 dengue cases and 71 deaths so far in 2026, according to the latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit, released as of midnight on August 23. The case fatality rate stands at 0.076 percent.
The highest burden has been reported from the Western Province, which accounts for more than half of all infections (49,771 cases, 52.9%). Within districts, Gampaha (20,034 cases) and Colombo (18,652 cases) remain the hardest hit, followed by Kandy (8,119 cases).
Monthly figures show a sharp spike in July, with 29,962 cases, followed by June at 21,533 cases. August has already recorded 8,701 cases, indicating continued transmission.
Other provinces with significant case loads include the Southern Province (14,396 cases) and Central Province (10,832 cases). Smaller but notable clusters have emerged in districts such as Matara (6,079 cases), Kalutara (6,075 cases), and Galle (5,807 cases).
Authorities have identified 76 high‑risk MOH areas during Week 33, with an average of 809 new cases reported daily.
Health officials continue to urge communities to intensify mosquito control measures, eliminate breeding sites, and seek prompt medical attention for suspected cases to curb the spread. (Newswire)
