Aluthgama police said an officer fired a shot into the air to control a suspect who allegedly attempted to attack officers with an iron rod, according to Lankadeepa.
The incident occurred in the Dharga Town area after police responded to a 119 call about a dispute between two groups. When officers arrived, the suspect reportedly tried to assault them with the rod, prompting one officer to fire a revolver into the air.
Police said the suspect was subdued and taken into custody. He will be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court.
Further investigations are being carried out by Aluthgama police.
