
The government has reimposed the State of Public Emergency with effect from Feb. 28, according to an Extraordinary Gazette issued under the signature of the Secretary to the President.
The Gazette said the extension is aimed at ensuring public security, maintaining public order and safeguarding the continuity of essential supplies and services required for daily life, citing the ongoing public emergency situation in the country.
The gazette reiterated that emergency powers will not be used to violate the civil rights of the public.
In a separate Extraordinary Gazette, the government also extended the designation of essential services. Electricity, fuel, health services, transport, roads, water, food supply, district and divisional secretariat offices, ambulance services, the Central Bank, state banks and insurance services, irrigation, telecommunications, postal and media services, landslide prevention, agriculture and agricultural insurance remain classified as essential.
