Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has stated that all teachers should be graduates, and those who enter the profession must undergo teacher training.
She made these remarks while addressing a meeting held yesterday (19) to discuss the proposed educational reforms with education sector representatives in the Southern Province.
“It will be mandatory for all teachers to be graduates, and those graduates who take up teaching appointments must go through teacher training,” she said.
She added that the current system is flawed, as many graduates who enter schools directly lack teacher training, while those who undergo teacher training often do not hold a degree.
“We have proposed the establishment of an education council to implement the necessary changes in education administration in line with the proposed reforms,” she further stated. (NewsWire)
