Sri Lanka’s chances of reaching the Asia Cup final are almost over after back-to-back defeats, while India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan remain in contention as the Super Four stage heads toward a tense finish.
India lead the table with two points from one match and need a win against either Bangladesh or Sri Lanka to almost seal their place in the final. Bangladesh, also on two points from one game, require a victory over India or Pakistan to strengthen their qualification chances. Pakistan, with two points from two games, must defeat Bangladesh in their last fixture to stay alive.
Sri Lanka, without a win in two matches, face the toughest equation. The defending champions must beat India by a big margin to improve their net run rate and then hope that three teams finish level on two points each, with Sri Lanka sneaking through on NRR.
There is also the possibility of three teams finishing with four points each if India lose one of their two remaining matches. In that case, despite having four points, one team would still miss out on the final due to net run rate.
With multiple scenarios still in play, every game in the coming days is set to be decisive in determining the two finalists of the Asia Cup. (Newswire)
