Former Minister of Women, Child Affairs and Dry Zone Development has been indicted before the Colombo High Court over corruption charges filed by the Bribery Commission.
The indictment was submitted before High Court Judge Adithya Patabendi, following which the court ordered that the former minister be released on two personal bails of Rs. 1 million each. The court also directed that her fingerprints be recorded.
The charges relate to her tenure during the previous Yahapalana Government, where she allegedly misused her authority to appoint H.M. Chandrawansa as Project Director of the Dry Zone Development Ministry and influenced the appointment of several associates to various positions, bypassing due procedure.
She is accused of committing the offence of “corruption” under the relevant laws governing public office. (Newswire)
