The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-central, and Uva provinces and Vavuniya, Kurunegala and Ampara districts today.
Per the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm today (20), red alerts have been issued to 12 districts and amber alerts to 13 districts.
Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the districts, while there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
