The Criminal Investigation Department has obtained a 72-hour detention order to further question former Minister Douglas Devananda, police said on Saturday.
Devananda was arrested on Friday in connection with an investigation into the alleged transfer of a firearm to an organised criminal. According to the Acting Police Media Spokesperson, the case concerns a pistol issued to Devananda that was later found in the possession of underworld figure Makandure Madush.
Madush, a notorious organised criminal, was killed in a police shootout in Colombo in 2020 after being extradited to Sri Lanka from Dubai.
