A 72-year-old woman was killed after being struck by an SUV in the Elawella area of Horana on Saturday evening.
Police said the woman was crossing the road when the vehicle hit her. She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Horana Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The victim was identified as a resident of the Horana area.
Police arrested the SUV driver and investigations revealed that he had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
