Norway has expressed willingness to support Sri Lanka in developing renewable energy through wind, solar and ocean wave power, officials said.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lal Kantha and Norwegian Honorary Consul Sturle Harald Pedersen at the Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday (18).

Pedersen said Sri Lanka could utilise multiple renewable energy sources, including wind, solar and tidal energy, to strengthen its energy production. He also handed over a project proposal prepared in this regard to the minister.

Discussions focused on the agricultural sector, particularly the importance of integrating renewable energy into farming activities.

Pedersen highlighted that agricultural waste could be used to produce gas, and said Norway is interested in identifying regions with such resources to implement gas production projects.

He also noted that excess solar energy generated during daytime could be used to produce hydrogen through electrolysis, which could then be used as a fuel source. (NewsWire)
