
Police have arrested a 38-year-old man accused of defrauding money by forging government documents and promising overseas employment.
The suspect was arrested on January 26 at a lodge in Moragasmulla, Rajagiriya, by officers of the Special Investigation Unit of the Foreign Employment Bureau, which operates under the Central Crime Investigation Bureau.
Police said the arrest followed complaints that the suspect had forged official letterheads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism to obtain money from job seekers.
During the arrest, officers recovered forged letterheads, curriculum vitae, photocopies of foreign passports and several foreign employment application forms.
The suspect, a resident of the Pilimatalawa area, was produced before the Aluthkade No. 05 Magistrate’s Court on January 27 and was released on two sureties of Rs. 1 million each. The court also imposed a foreign travel ban.
