The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) reports that 33,910 foreign tourists arrived in the country during the first week of May 2025.

According to the latest SLTDA statistics, total arrivals for the year so far have risen to 930,794.

Despite a seasonal dip in arrivals from Western countries typically seen after the winter period, the average daily tourist arrivals remain around 5,000.

However, arrivals for the first week of May 2025 have surpassed those recorded in the same period in previous years — 18,761 in 2023 and 28,526 in 2024 — indicating a notable year-on-year growth.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka states that tourism earnings from January to April 2025 amounted to USD 1,379 million, reflecting a 10.2% increase compared to USD 1,251.6 million recorded during the same period in 2024.

Tourism earnings for April 2025 alone stood at USD 646.1 million, according to the Central Bank. (Newswire)
