
Minister of Health Nalinda Jayatissa says Sri Lanka has recorded more than 50,000 dengue cases so far this year, it was reported.
According to reports, the National Dengue Control Unit states 30 dengue-related deaths have been reported to date, while the outbreak has placed increasing pressure on hospitals in several parts of the country.
The Dengue unit further states that 14 districts have been significantly affected, with patient numbers exceeding hospital capacity in some areas.
A three-day special dengue control programme covering 600 high-risk Grama Niladhari divisions concluded on Friday (26) as part of efforts to curb the outbreak.
Meanwhile, health authorities have also reportedly imposed conditions for granting approval for Poson dansals to minimise the risk of dengue transmission during the festive period. (Newswire)
