Foreign worker remittances to Sri Lanka recorded a significant increase in 2025, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
Remittances for September 2025 stood at USD 695.7 million, up from USD 555.6 million recorded in the same month last year. This marks a year-on-year growth of nearly 25%.
Cumulatively, worker remittances from January to September 2025 amounted to USD 5,811.7 million, compared to USD 4,843.8 million during the corresponding period in 2024 — an increase of about 20%.
CBSL data indicate that foreign remittances continue to play a key role in supporting Sri Lanka’s external sector stability and foreign exchange reserves.
