The Department of Meteorology says atmospheric conditions will be favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka over the next few days, from today (02 April).

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, North-western and North-central provinces after 2.00 pm today.

Fairly heavy falls above 50 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kurunegala district.

Showers may occur in the Southern province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Monaragala districts in the morning.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kaluthara to Batticaloa via Galle, Hambantota and Pottuvil.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds will be variable in direction. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
