A 45-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Praveen Nissanka, a municipal worker, in Mount Lavinia (Galkissa) earlier this month.
Police believe the suspect was the rider of the motorcycle used during the attack, while the shooter—who was riding pillion—remains at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend the gunman.
The incident occurred on May 5 near the Silvester Road junction while the victim was engaged in street cleaning duties. Acting on intelligence, officers from the Mount Lavinia Police and the Divisional Crime Investigation Unit arrested the suspect on May 16 in the Makumbura area, within the Homagama Police Division.
Parts of the suspected motorcycle and two fake number plates were recovered from behind the suspect’s residence in Pannipitiya.
Further investigations are ongoing. (Newswire)
