The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber-level advisory warning multi-day boat operators, fishing, and naval communities operating in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal about strong winds and rough seas following the formation of a low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea.

According to the weather advisory issued at 04:30 p.m. on October 29, 2026, by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, the low-level atmospheric disturbance near the North Sumatra islands developed into a low-pressure area around 11:30 a.m. today. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea by October 31.

Meteorologists forecast that the system will intensify further while continuing its west-northwestward path toward the Andhra Pradesh coast of India over the subsequent two days.

During this period, wind speeds in the designated advisory sea areas are expected to increase up to 55 kmph at times, causing the sea conditions to become rough. Naval and fishing communities engaged in activities across these sea zones are strongly advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor future bulletins and forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology.
