The Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court has imposed a Rs. 200,000 fine on a supermarket in Anuradhapura for displaying electrical cord reels without the required Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) certification for sale.
Officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) detected a brand of electrical cord reels without SLS certification during a raid conducted at a supermarket on 11th Street, Anuradhapura, on Aug. 18.
The CAA subsequently initiated legal action in connection with the offence.
When the case was taken up before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court on Aug. 21, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 200,000.
The CAA said compliance with applicable standards for electrical products such as cord reels is important for consumer safety, as substandard electrical products may increase the risk of electric shocks, electrical leakage and fires. (Newswire)
