Police have released details of the arrest in Malaysia of an organised crime suspect wanted in Sri Lanka under Red Notices, along with two other suspects who were also brought back to the country.
The 41-year-old main suspect, a resident of Ratmalana, was arrested in Malaysia during an operation conducted with the assistance of Malaysian police and Interpol. He was brought back to Sri Lanka by air on Monday (10), the Police Media Division said.
The suspect is wanted in connection with two cases pending before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court involving the alleged abduction and assault of a person using firearms in the Peradeniya police area in 2014, and the shooting death of another person in the same area in 2016.
Open warrants had been issued against the suspect after he failed to appear before court in connection with the cases.
He had also been arrested in 2003 in connection with a robbery in the Mount Lavinia police area and prosecuted before the Colombo High Court. In 2007, he was arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police for allegedly possessing a hand grenade, police said.
Two other suspects, a 35-year-old resident of Ratmalana and a 31-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia, were also arrested while they were with the main suspect in Malaysia. They were subsequently brought back to Sri Lanka for further investigations.
Further investigations are being conducted under the instructions and direct supervision of the Inspector General of Police. (Newswire)
