
Former SLPP Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daya Pushpa Kumara Battage has been remanded until May 19 over allegations of causing a loss of more than Rs. 40 million to the State.
The order was issued today (08) by Colombo Additional Magistrate Liyan Werasawithana following a request by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
According to the Bribery Commission, the suspect was arrested after investigations into four corruption-related allegations. Officials informed court that Battage, who is a resident of Kamburugamuwa and a known political activist, had allegedly caused the financial loss while serving as a government official and obtaining benefits for himself.
CIABOC requested that the suspect be remanded as further investigations are continuing. (Newswire)
