Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, currently on an official visit to Sri Lanka, held meetings with Deputy Minister of Defence Maj. Gen. Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) on Monday, Sept. 22.
Admiral Tripathi first met with Jayasekara at the Ministry of Defence in Colombo, where discussions centered on strengthening defence diplomacy, enhancing bilateral cooperation, and addressing regional maritime security challenges. Topics included humanitarian assistance and disaster response, countering maritime crimes such as drug trafficking and human smuggling, and increasing joint training and capacity-building efforts.
Later, the admiral held talks with Defence Secretary Thuyacontha at the ministry’s office in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte. The meeting focused on military-to-military cooperation, regional stability in the Indian Ocean, joint operations, tackling illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and advancing information sharing between the two nations.
Both meetings reaffirmed the commitment to deepening defence ties and collaboration in maritime security between India and Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
