
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a resolution presented by the Minister of Science and Technology to appoint an expert committee tasked with formulating Sri Lanka’s first National Space Policy.
According to the government, space technology has become a critical driver of national development, delivering benefits across disaster management, communication, security, environmental monitoring, and economic innovation.
Recognizing its growing strategic importance, the government emphasized the need for an integrated national framework to guide future activities.
The proposed policy will formalize Sri Lanka’s approach to space technology, facilitate international cooperation, and enhance the country’s effectiveness within global space governance mechanisms.
It will also ensure that all national space activities comply with international obligations, agreements, and standards. (Newswire)
