Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have signed a trilateral defence agreement aimed at strengthening military and security cooperation, amid escalating tensions and conflicts in the Middle East.
The agreement, signed in Mecca by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, states that an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack against all.
A joint statement said the pact seeks to enhance joint deterrence, expand defence cooperation, strengthen military coordination, intelligence sharing and counterterrorism efforts. The three countries also stressed that the agreement is defensive in nature and is not intended to establish a new military bloc or target any specific country.
The agreement comes as the Middle East faces heightened instability, with ongoing regional conflicts and security concerns prompting countries to deepen defence partnerships. Analysts say the pact marks a significant shift in regional security cooperation by bringing together Saudi Arabia, nuclear-armed Pakistan and NATO member Türkiye. (Newswire)
