
- Ministry of Defence Establishes Public Assistance Helpdesk at Galle Face for the Festive Season
Under the direction of the Secretary Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), a dedicated Public Assistance Helpdesk will be established commencing on 21 December 2025, in the Galle Face area, located in front of the Presidential Secretariat. This initiative is a response to the significant increase in public gatherings during the ongoing seasonal period.
The Helpdesk is being set up through a coordinated effort of the Tri-Forces and the Sri Lanka Police, ensuring a unified, responsive, and visible presence on the ground.
The Public Assistance Helpdesk will function as a central point of contact for members of the public, facilitating immediate assistance, guidance, and effective coordination in the event of emergencies or unforeseen situations. Its presence is intended to enhance public safety, situational awareness, and rapid response capabilities within the area.
In addition to security and coordination functions, ambulance services and on-site health assistance will be made available in the vicinity to address medical emergencies and provide first-aid support as required. The Ministry of Defence, together with the Tri-Forces and the Sri Lanka Police, remains fully committed to safeguarding the well-being of the public while enabling citizens and visitors to enjoy the Galle Face area in a safe, secure, and orderly manner.For the convenience of the public, the contact numbers for the Public Assistance Helpdesk, emergency coordination, ambulance services, and police assistance are provided, and citizens are encouraged to reach out to 071 859 5880 for any urgent needs or support.
