The Muslim community in Sri Lanka will begin Ramadan fasting tomorrow (19), following the sighting of the new crescent moon this evening, the Colombo Grand Mosque announced.
The declaration was made after religious authorities confirmed the moon sighting, marking the official start of the month of fasting for Muslims across the island.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset, abstaining from food and drink while dedicating more time to prayer, reflection and charity. Special nightly prayers are also held at mosques throughout the country.
Ramadan will conclude with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the month-long period of fasting. (Newswire)
