The Attorney General’s Department informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today that investigations into former President Ranil Wickremesinghe are expected to conclude within a month, with formal charges likely to be filed by March.

The submission was made by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, when the case was heard before Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara.

Investigators informed the court that there is evidence indicating former President Ranil Wickremesinghe undertook an unofficial visit to the UK. Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara stated that the court accepts this claim.

The Attorney General’s Department informed the court that charges against Wickremesinghe will be filed before the High Court. The case is scheduled to be taken up on April 29, 2026. (Newswire)
