Strong wind advisory issued for 5 provinces

The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds affecting five provinces as active south-west monsoon conditions continue across the country.

The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 11.30 a.m. on Friday, is valid until 11.30 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the Department, strong winds of around 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the North Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern provinces.

The public has been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions to minimise the risk of damage caused by strong winds. (Newswire)
