Several spells of showers across multiple districts, the Department of Meteorology said.

Rainfall is expected in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, North-Western, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Showers or thundershowers may also occur in other areas after 2 p.m.

Fairly heavy rainfall of around 50 millimeters is likely in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are forecast over the eastern slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Eastern provinces, as well as in Matara, Hambantota, and Monaragala districts.

Misty conditions are expected during the early morning hours in areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, and in Galle and Matara districts.

The public is advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Showers are likely in sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Mannar, Kankasanthurai, and Trincomalee. Thundershowers may develop in other coastal waters in the evening or night, the Met Department said.

Winds will be easterly to north-easterly at 25–35 km/h, increasing to 45–50 km/h at times in the sea areas from Puttalam to Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Seas in these areas will be fairly rough at times. Strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers. (Newswire)
