The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) stated that the Chief Incumbent of the Malwatu Chapter has informed them that the Chief Prelates of the four Chapters are of the view that the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the retirement age of judges is not suitable.

Addressing the media, BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said the Malwatu Chief Incumbent had conveyed that this position has been communicated in writing to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Amarasuriya added that, in light of this stance, it would be difficult for the government to proceed with its plan to extend the retirement age of judges. (Newswire)
