A 9-year-old boy from Viharahalmillewa, Anuradhapura, has died after becoming entangled in the rope tied around a cow’s neck.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday (13) evening while the boy, a Grade 4 student of Viharapalugama Vidyaraja Vidyalaya, was playing with a group of friends near a neighbour’s house where the cow was kept.
According to police, the cow suddenly broke loose and ran toward the village road, during which the child became caught in the rope and was dragged for nearly 900 metres.
He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Despite receiving intensive care, he passed away yesterday (14) evening. (Newswire)
