The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) says it has conducted a total of 471 special pharmacy raids islandwide this year as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard consumer health.
In a statement, the CAA said a special inspection and enforcement programme carried out on August 3 and 4 resulted in the inspection of 109 pharmacies and the detection of 86 violations.
The Authority noted that between January 1 and June 30, 2026, inspections had been carried out at 362 pharmacies across the country. With the latest operation, the total number of special pharmacy raids conducted this year has reached 471.
According to the CAA, court proceedings arising from these enforcement actions have resulted in fines amounting to Rs. 2,269,500.
Investigations uncovered the sale of expired medicines and pharmaceutical products, medicines lacking mandatory consumer information, violations of consumer information requirements, and various offences relating to medical devices, baby products and other consumer goods sold through pharmacies.
The Authority said expired medicines, tablets, injections, syringes, creams, baby products, pregnancy test kits, medical devices and several other consumer products were seized during the raids and will be produced before the relevant Magistrate’s Courts. (Newswire)
