A cyberattack targeted several blood storage facilities in France, with hackers reportedly attempting to raise refrigeration temperatures to 110°C, the French Health Ministry has confirmed.
The attack affected three facilities operated by the French Blood Establishment (EFS), which stores plasma used for blood transfusions and the production of medicines.
According to French media reports, hackers targeted refrigeration control systems through an equipment supplier, attempting to change storage temperatures from around minus 30°C to 110°C.
However, monitoring and alarm systems detected the unusual changes, allowing staff to secure or transfer blood products before any damage occurred.
The French Health Ministry confirmed that the situation was under control, with no blood products lost and no disruption to blood collection or distribution services.
The incident follows a series of cyberattacks targeting refrigeration systems at supermarkets across several European countries, where hackers remotely altered temperatures, causing significant food losses.
French cybersecurity authorities have launched an investigation into the latest attack. It remains unclear whether the incidents are connected or who was responsible. (Newswire)
