The Colombo High Court on Thursday (5) sentenced a female lawyer to 12 years in prison after finding her guilty of preparing forged deeds related to a land transaction.
High Court Judge Lanka Jayaratne delivered the verdict following a lengthy trial, ruling that the prosecution had proven the charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Attorney General had filed indictments against the 61-year-old lawyer on two counts, including preparing forged deeds connected to a land in the Borella area.
The judge imposed six years of rigorous imprisonment for each charge, bringing the total sentence to 12 years. However, the court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, meaning the prison term will be served within six years. (NewsWire)
