Family, Infant Injured in Accident Involving Jeep Driven by Former Speaker Ashoka Ranwala

A family, including a six-month-old infant, was injured in a road accident involving a jeep driven by Former Speaker and NPP MP Ashoka Ranwala in the Sapugaskanda area, police said.

The head-on collision occurred on Thursday evening (11) in the Denimulla area of Sapugaskanda, according to the police.

A 25-year-old woman travelling in the car, her approximately six-month-old infant, and a 55-year-old elderly woman sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital. Police said the infant was transferred to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children for further treatment.

Ranwala, who was driving the jeep involved in the collision, was also injured and admitted to the Ragama Teaching Hospital for medical care.

In addition to the jeep and the car, a motorcycle believed to be linked to the incident has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation.

Sapugaskanda Police are continuing investigations into the cause of the accident.
