The National Innovation Agency (NIA) has unveiled its National Innovation Reports for 2025 and 2026, documenting more than 70 examples of innovations developed and successfully commercialised or implemented across the country.
The reports were launched in Colombo on Wednesday (19) under the patronage of Minister of Science and Technology Krishantha Abeysena.
The NIA, which operates under the Ministry of Science and Technology, publishes the annual reports to provide a national overview of the status, progress and impact of innovation in the country and its contribution to national development.
The two reports document innovations that have moved beyond ideas and inventions to become products, services, technologies and businesses that generate income and create economic and social value.
The launch also marked the first awards under the NIA’s Innovation Vouchers Programme, with financial grants presented to 11 successful applicants, including individuals and teams.
The event was attended by Acting Secretary to the Ministry of Science and Technology Mahesh Gammanpila, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment Rohitha Uduwawala, NIA Chief Innovation Officer Muditha Senarath Yapa, ministry and NIA officials, former members of the agency’s steering committee and other invitees.
