Fifty foreign nationals who had overstayed their visas were arrested on Tuesday (21) by officers of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The suspects include 47 Chinese nationals, two Malaysians and one Indian national, authorities said.
They had entered the country on business visas and remained in Sri Lanka after their visas had expired.
The arrests were made in the Negombo area following intelligence received by the department’s investigation unit, under the instructions of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
The suspects are currently being held at the Welisara Detention Centre and are expected to be deported. (Newswire)
