
40 families in the Bambarabedda area of Udadumbara have been evacuated to safety shelters due to landslide risks following severe rainfall, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
Meanwhile two families in Kovilkanda, Mawanella and five families in Kalugalthenna, Matale have been evacuated to safety shelters due to landslide risks.
The ‘Red’ evacuation alerts to Yatinuwara, Doluwa, Udadumbara, and Ganga Ihala Korale DS Divisions and surrounding areas remain in place following ranfall exceeding 150 mm, the DMC said.
Several road closures have also been reported in the Kandy districts, the DMC said.
A section of Peradeniya Road between Gohagoda and Halloluwa has been closed due to a rockfall.
The road from Penideniya to Daulagala has been closed because of flooding in Penideniya.
The Muruthalawa–Gannoruwa road has also been closed due to a rockfall. (Newswire)
