The Islamic Relief Committee (ISRC), a long-standing humanitarian organization in Sri Lanka, has expanded its emergency response efforts with a series of free medical camps for families affected by recent flooding and Cyclone Ditwa.
The organization, accredited this year by the United Nations through ECOSOC and a member of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World, said the initiative is being carried out in coordination with government health authorities to ensure timely treatment for vulnerable communities.
ISRC, which has operated in Sri Lanka for nearly 30 years, works in areas including water and sanitation, health, education support, shelter, orphan care, livelihood development, and seasonal relief programs.
According to the organization, seven of 14 planned medical camps have already been completed in the Puttalam District, providing services such as pre-screening, doctor consultations, health counselling, wound care and free medicines.
The completed camps were held at Ashrafiyya Arabic College, Manalkunru; Assenkuddoos Muslim Vidyalaya, Vettalai; Masjidul Hasanath Jummah Mosque, Al Jiddah, Thillayadi; the ISRC Office in Nuraicholai; G.R.C. Tamil Vidyalaya in Eththala; Kandakkuli Displaced Pre-School; and Eluwanakulam M.M.V. in Wanathavilluwa. A total of 2,121 patients received treatment at the seven locations.
ISRC said the remaining camps will be held in Husainiyapuram, Palaviya, Sevanthivu, Mundel, Karuwalagswewa, Arachikkattuwa and Nattandiya between December 11 and 17.
In a statement, the organization expressed appreciation to government health departments, medical staff, volunteers, donors and well-wishers who contributed to the initiative.
ISRC said its goal is to strengthen long-term humanitarian support, especially for communities severely affected by natural disasters. (Newswire)
